Hospitalist: Helping to Ensure Your Baby’s Health and Well Being
St. John Medical Center is one of the few hospitals on Cleveland’s
West Side that uses a pediatric hospitalist to enhance the care of
infants and pediatric patients.
In addition to the care your baby will receive from your doctor and
nurses in the Family Birth Center, our pediatric hospitalist makes
ongoing rounds to provide individualized and family oriented care
throughout your baby’s stay. The benefits of the pediatric hospitalist
include providing a quick response to changes in a child’s condition that might occur
throughout the course of a day, enhanced communication with family members, and
coordinated inpatient management of care that could involve several specialists.
Since hospitalists are based in the hospital, they always readily available to provide timely
treatment, if needed. In many instances, the use of a pediatric hospitalist results in fewer
complications and a shorter length of stay for the infant of child.
If a child needs more serious care, St. John Medical Center has a special relationship with
Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. If the need arises, they will be transported to Rainbow
Babies & Children’s Hospital, a service of University Hospital. Rainbow Babies & Children’s
Hospital is one of the leading children’s hospitals in the United States.
St. John Medical Center also offers a Pediatric Emergency Service designed to treat children
and adolescents with minor ailments/injuries. This program is affiliated with Rainbow Babies &
Children’s Hospital, a service of University Hospitals. The service is billed as an emergency
room visit. Hours are weekdays from 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.; weekends and holidays from
3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
